Hornell senior, Aaron McInerney hit six 3 point shots to help lift the Red Raiders over the Dansville Mustangs Friday night in LCAA D1 action.

Reflecting on the game, Hornell coach Kirk Scholes commented, “Tonight we started out slow and our energy level wasn’t where it needed to be.  We adjusted to a full court man to try and get us going.  We started getting easier buckets.  We played inside out and started to attack the zone.”

Scoring only 7 points in the second quarter, the Raiders went into halftime up 20-13.  Hornell came out strong in the second half and outscored the Mustangs 32-25 in the win.

“Austyn Gollnitz played a really good 2nd half and gave us a presence inside,” continued Scholes.  “He rebounded and guarded very well.  We need him to be a force.  We need his athletic ability.  He can be a beast!  He’s just scratching the surface.  If he can play at that level we have a chance to be a really good team.” Gollnitz led all players with 10 rebounds and added 7 points for the Raiders.

“Aaron did a good job defensively and then got going from three making 6.  We need his shooting, because he can carry us at times,” said Scholes.

He continued, “PJ did a good job in several areas.  He’s so versatile offensively.  Sometimes he does it from the post, other times it’s in the midrange or from deep.  We need him to stay aggressive.”

McInerney and PJ Picco each scored 18 points for the Red Raiders.  McInerney added 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  Wyatt Evingham had 10 points and 5 assists.

Quinn Dixon and Ivan Wolf-Mialky each had 8 points for the Mustangs.  Wolf-Mialky also had 8 rebounds.

The Red Raiders (6-3) jump to the #3 seed in Section V Class B1, behind LeRoy (6-2) and World of Inquiry (7-0) and are 3-0 in LCAA D1 play.

“We have a big week coming with Bath and Wellsville.  We know we have to be ready to play and come with energy,” Scholes commented.  The Red Raiders take on the Haverling Rams on Tuesday at Alfred University with a scheduled 3:30 pm start time.  They will then travel to Wellsville for a matchup with the Lions next Friday at 8pm.
