Basketball fans who went over to Alfred University on Tuesday night were surprised to see there were four games being played, starting with the Hornell girls taking down a tough Dansville team and the night ended with the Canisteo-Greenwood girls beating Class A Jamestown.
The Wellsville boys took on Fillmore and the Hornell boys downed Dansville (more on that game, CLICK HERE)
GIRLS
Canisteo-Greenwood 76, Jamestown 50
For years, one of the most exciting teams to watch in girls’ basketball was the Jamestown girls’ team. They run the court, full-court man pressure and for a few years, subbed five players every three minutes.
On Tuesday night at Alfred, it was the Canisteo-Greenwood Chargers who put on the show, racing out to an 11-2 lead then 23-8 after one, never looking back, winning 76-50.

The Chargers had six players in double figures. It makes it impossible to try to slow any one player down.
C-G is now 9-1 and just behind 8-1 Letchworth in the Section V Class C 1 standings. Lyons, Bloomfield, Kendall, Gananda, Clyde-Savannah, Geneseo, Byron-Bergen and Dundee/Bradford all have winning records in a loaded bracket.
Kara Mahoney scored a game-high 16 points for Canisteo-Greenwood while Makenna Mullen had 11, Paris May and Payton Bentley each scored 10, Gracen Mahaney (11 rebounds) and Anna Mitchell each had 12 and Bailey Mullen and Lyla Greenfield each scored two.
For Jamestown, Payton Gibbs had a team-high 15 points.
GIRLS
Hornell 69, Dansville 38
To beat Hornell, teams try to stop the high-scoring of several players, but also stop Mia Nasca, whose passing and ability to run the offense helps the other score.
On Tuesday night, 7-1 Dansville was able to keep five of Hornell’s top scorers all under 12 points and several under 10 points. It was a recipe for a victory.
Except Nasca showed what happens when she has a window of opportunity to score, and what a night she had.
Nasca drilled a carer-high eight 3-pointers and scored 26 points to lead all scorers.
Hornell (9-2) is the No. 1 seed in Section V Class B1 ahead of Waterloo, Penn Yan and Dansville.

Selena Maldonado and Raegan Evingham each scored 11 for Hornell while Jordyn Dyring had nine, Teegan Eveland eight and A’Jonay Hawkins scored four.
For Dansville (7-2), Taylor Hamsher had 12 points, Morgan Ball six, Colleen Metcalfe and Jaylynn Bridge scored five, Samantha O’Connor and Kassidy Cole had four and Allison O’Connor scored two.
Hornell coach Jim Dagon knows not only is Dansville one of the best in Section V, but also the state.
“We knew coming into tonight that this was a matchup between two of the top teams not only in our section, but in the state, so it was important for us to bring the right energy and play our brand of basketball,” Dagon said. “I thought the girls were locked in from the start, rebounded the ball extremely well, and stayed committed to playing team-first, unselfish basketball.”
He said Nasca was “shooting with great confidence” and that Hawkins gave the team “a strong effort inside.”
Dagon added, “The effort across the board was excellent, and this was a complete team win. We defended, rebounded, shared the ball, and played with the kind of composure and togetherness that we’re striving for every night.”

BOYS
Fillmore 64, Wellsville 53
Fillmore has been a high-scoring team this season, but the Wellsville Lions were able to stop the balanced Eagles with two players in double figures.
However, Fillmore showed why they are undefeated, pulling away from a blose game with outstanding defense, forcing several turnovers in in the second and third quarters to go on to win, 64-52.
Fillmore improved to 10-0 and sit at No. 2 in the Section V Class C2 standings behind 6-0 Naples. Northstar Christian is No, 3 at 10-1 and Cuba-Rushford is 9-1. The loaded class also has 8-2 Honeoye, Batavia Notre Dame, York, Perry, Keshequa and Genesee Valley/Belfast all with winning records.
Jonah Bialek led Fillmore with 22 points while Cam Mucher scored 20, Jameson Rhett had five, Isiah Sisson had 12 and Carson Sanasith had three.
For Wellsville (5-6), Trenton Green was once again a force inside with 21 points and 12 rebounds, but also drained a 3-pointer. Blake Kalkoff had seven, Jack Davis (3-pointer), Payson Root and Nick GT all had five points, Ben Helveston and Cole Densmore had four and Cole White had two.

Boys
Andover-Whitesville 89, Arkport-Canaseraga 45
Andover/Whitesville improved to 10-0 on the season with a big 89-45 win over Arkport-Canaseraga.
Brody Vance had a game-high 35 points for the Panthers including a 3-pointer and 8-for-9 from the foul line.
Vincent Joyce had 15, Colton Calladine 17, James Miller-Young six, Rogan Perkins four, Trey kent four, Jake Mattison six, Gavin Frungillo two and Skyler Orpet had three.
For Arkport-Canaseraga, Luke Wilson had 12, Ronan Williams had nine, Everette McCarthy had 11, Jace Carey and Bryan Hess had five, and Michael Guild had three.
Andover/Whitesville coach Jim Joyce said, “We had a very solid effort tonight on both ends. Minus a small stretch early where we were undisciplined defensively, I thought it what one of our most complete games. That’s a great coaching staff on the other side. They have dealt with a ridiculous amount of health issues and yet still improve every game. They are going to be a problem down the stretch for sure. Brody, Colt and Vinny led the way for us as they normally do. We are also getting more and more contributions for our entire roster as the season progresses. We are getting closer to where we need to be for the stretch run for sure.”
