Today I am proud to announce the Grand Marshal for the upcoming Hornell St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Each year, the City of Hornell selects someone who makes a meaningful difference in our community to serve as Grand Marshal. This year’s honoree is someone who has quietly and consistently helped shape the lives of hundreds of young people while also bringing pride and recognition to our city.

I am pleased to announce that Chris Van Leeuwen, Director of Vocal Music for the Hornell City School District, will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal.

For many years, Chris has been the driving force behind the incredible growth and success of Hornell’s vocal music program. Under his leadership, the choir program for grades 7–12, including Jazz Choir, Show Choir, Treble Choir, and other ensembles, has reached record levels of participation and excellence. Hornell’s choirs consistently perform at an exceptional level and have brought home numerous competition honors.

Beyond competitions, what truly makes Chris’s work special is the way he and his students give back to the community. Throughout the year, Hornell’s choirs perform at senior citizen homes, community gatherings, and important civic ceremonies such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Their performances, including many during the holiday season, bring pride, inspiration, and joy to so many people throughout our community.

While the students are incredibly talented, Chris’s passion, vision, and dedication have been the foundation of the program’s success. His work has not only elevated music education in Hornell but has also strengthened the connection between our schools and our community.

On behalf of the City of Hornell, I want to thank Chris for the tremendous impact he continues to have on our students and our community.
