The Hornell Red Raiders baseball season came to an end Wednesday night after their 3-0 loss to the #1 seeded Haverling Rams in the Class B semifinal game.

After losing 13-3 and 14-0 to the Rams during the regular season, Hornell standout, Julian King pitched a fantastic game, giving up just 5 hits and 2 earned runs in the 3-0 loss.  King held the Rams scoreless through 3 innings.

Great Season Raiders!! Go Rams!!

Haverling got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning when Gage Thomas scored on a passed ball.  The Red Raiders got the bats going in the top of the 5th inning when Marco Picco reached first base on an error and Alfie Whiteley singled on a hard hit ball to the third baseman.  Tyrone Buchanan’s sacrifice bunt advanced Picco and Whiteley to scoring positions.  The Rams, however, were able to end Hornell’s threat with a strikeout to close out the top of the 5th.

The Rams added two more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Leading off the inning, Dylan Wenban singled, beating the throw by Hornell’s third baseman, Cody Cardamone.  Wenban tallied a stolen base to reach second before Gage Thomas hit a bomb to deep left field for a stand up double that scored Wenban.  Dayton Orlowske’s single to left field scored Thomas to give the Rams a 3-0 lead heading into the final inning of the game.

Once again, the Red Raiders became a scoring threat in the top of the 7th inning when Nick Gray reached first on an error, and with two outs, Alfie Whiteley and Tyrone Buchanan both singled to load the bases.  However, Gage Thomas’ dominance on the mound notched a strikeout for the third out of the inning.

Haverling’s Gage Thomas earned the win for the Rams with his incredible performance on the mound.  He struck out 9 batters and gave up just 4 hits and walked one batter.  Thomas also led his team with 2 hits, an RBI, and 2 runs scored.

The Rams, who are currently ranked #4 in NYS, will take on the Wayland-Cohocton Eagles this Saturday in the Section V Class B1 championship game.
