Hornell boys baseball takes a loss to Livonia to open the season

The Hornell Red Raiders fell to the Livonia Bulldogs in there home opener Friday evening.  The Bulldogs scored 19 runs on 11 hits, while the Red Raiders scored 5 runs on 8 hits in the losing effort.

Livonia’s Oliver Taylor pitched 4 innings giving up 5 runs and 8 hits while striking out 7 and walking only 2 batters.  Harper Rowe earned the save for the Bulldogs with 2 strikeouts in one inning pitched. 

The Bulldogs were hot at the plate with 8 players earning hits.  Jake Benitez, Kaidan O’Connor, and Oliver Taylor each had two hits for Livonia.  Benitez led his team with 6 RBIs.

Cody Cardamone got started on the mound for the Red Raiders, striking out one and giving up 6 hits.  Keegan Matt pitched 3 2/3 innings, striking out 3 and giving up 5 hits.  Hornell’s Julian King and Nash Adams each went 2 for 3 at the plate.  Brody Flaitz, Cody Cardamone, Christian Valle, and Marco Picco each singled.  

The Red Raiders had a full week of games coming off spring break.  They traveled to Mount Morris and came away with the 21-5 win over the Blue Devils.  Wednesday’s game in Campbell-Savona was rained out, and the Raiders will pick up the game in the 5th inning leading 8-1 over the Panthers.

Hornell currently stands in 6th place in Class B1 action with a record of 1-2.  The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 on the season and are currently seeded #2 behind Way-Co.
