Chief of Police Joshua VanSkiver named “Top DWI Enforcer in New York State”

On April 28, 2026, members of the Alfred Village Police Department, along with Chief Joshua VanSkiver, attended an awards ceremony at the Capitol Center in Albany. During the event, the Alfred Police Department was honored with the Department of the Year Award for its outstanding DWI enforcement efforts in 2025.

This prestigious recognition was presented by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), New York State STOP-DWI, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, and the Governor’s Office. The Village of Alfred is incredibly proud of the department’s dedication, hard work, and commitment to keeping the community safe.

The ceremony brought together hundreds of local and state law enforcement professionals, as well as numerous state representatives. Chief Joshua VanSkiver was selected as the keynote speaker, where he addressed attendees on the critical importance of DWI enforcement. He emphasized how even a single traffic stop can save lives.

In addition to serving as keynote speaker, Chief VanSkiver was recognized for his Lifetime Achievement Award and named the Top DWI Enforcer in New York State.

The Village of Alfred is honored to have Chief VanSkiver and the members of the Alfred Police Department representing the community with such distinction.
