Fundraising effort underway to restore 1930 vintage organ in the Union University Church

Due to the amazing generosity of so many people, the Organ Restoration Fund reached the $25,000 needed for repairs to the 1930 Moller organ in the Union University Church in Alfred. What a great accomplishment for our community! Thank you to the 34 donors who have contributed in the last three months!
With some trepidation, the Union University Church trustees have added a second and final goal. The original quote from Jason Klinger of Middleport, NY included restoration of the facade pipes on the organ case which have been painted twice in their 100 year history, first white, and then clay brown. The trustees were not confident that the full $35k could be raised, so the initial goal was $25,000. With that goal of $25,000 met and exceeded by $3,500, the trustees have given the go-ahead to fundraise for the remaining $6,500 to complete the restoration both mechanically and aesthetically. The return to the original gold bronze pipes will add rich beauty to the sanctuary.

As organ builder and Alfred native Scot Huntington described in his history of the Alfred organ: “The organ case and console were made by the factory, out of American walnut, and the façade pipes were painted gold bronze. It would have added a luxurious appearance in the refurbished church”.
Recent generous donors include Michael F. Wenslow, who gave in memory of Anne Wenslow, Anna McHale and Alistair Cormack, Bev and Dennis Butts, J. Robert and Anne B. Pipal, Mary Smith, and Sue Clinger Lange, who gave in memory of H. Woodie Lange.
