Reverend Eileen Borduin Vanderzwan will be formally installed as leader of the multi-denominational Christian congregation

The Union University is delighted to announce that they will formally install the Rev. Eileen Borduin Vanderzwan as their minister during a special service on Sunday, September 27 at 3:30 in the afternoon. The service will be held at the historic church located at 5 Church Street in Alfred, NY.
An installation service celebrates the covenant between a congregation and its newly called minister. The service will include music, Scripture readings, prayers, a sermon given by Rev. Gail Ricciuti, Assoc. Professor of Homiletics, Emeritus, Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, and the call to ministry and statement of installation by the Rev. Dr. John Odom, executive presbyter for the Presbytery of Genesee Valley. We are delighted that Laurel and John Buckwalter will return to Alfred for the event and that Laurel will reprise her roll as organist.
The Rev. Dr Vanderzwan began serving the Union University Church in May 2026. Rev. Vanderzwan received a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2007 and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in 2014.
In making the announcement Church Council and Search Committee chair, Dr. Nancy Evangelista, expressed her thanks to God for moving Rev. Vanderzwan to answer the call to ministry at the Union University Church. Rev. Vanderzwan has a particular interest in the arts and has already initiated discussions about ways in which the arts and issues of justice weave together.
The community is warmly invited to attend the installation service and the reception following which will be held across the street in the Church Center.
