Our recent visit to Barrelhouse 6 Distillery on a bustling Saturday left us thoroughly impressed. Nestled at 9558 Middle Road, Hammondsport, NY, this distillery is a true gem offering an exceptional craft spirits experience.
Led by the talented Master Distiller Kara, the distillery stands as a testament to her journey from an engineer and lawyer to a skilled craft distiller. Kara’s story of inspiration, sparked by a documentary in 2012, led her to immerse herself in the art of distillation. Her passion and dedication are palpable in every detail of Barrelhouse 6.
As we entered the distillery, the large, open and lodge-like room and welcoming atmosphere greeted us, reflecting the enthusiastic spirit of both the patrons and the staff. Kara, who also served as our bartender, skillfully crafted delicious Old Fashion cocktails using Barrelhouse 6 bourbon. The smoothness of the bourbon was undeniable, boasting rich barrel flavors intertwined with delicate caramel undertones. Kara’s expertise shone through in every sip. The bar offers a large number of bitters from which to select.
Barrelhouse 6 provides a large and diverse of unique twists on popular cocktails, like an espresso martini (which smelled delicious while being made), as well as their own concoctions like the Spring Breeze a peach and grapefruit concoction made with distillery’s own moonshine.
The distillery building itself is impressive, encompassing a spacious and tastefully adorned setting.The owners’ attention to detail is evident in the thoughtfully curated ambiance that resonates with the distillery’s character. The wide veranda treated us to a breathtaking view of Keuka Lake. Very busy hummingbird feeders adorned the porch.
On this particular Saturday the distillery was offering live music. The energy of the place harmonized perfectly with the distillery’s motto: “Make Booze, Have Fun, Do Good, Break The Rules, Dare Greatly!” Everything about Barrelhouse 6 was strong evidence to that maxim.
Our visit marked our second trip to Barrelhouse 6, a testament to the allure of this establishment. Kara’s hospitality and her ability to create an inviting environment added to the appeal of the distillery. Each element of our experience, from the bourbon’s distinctive flavors to the captivating view, confirmed that Barrelhouse 6 is a must-visit destination on Keuka Lake.
