Adventure Continues at the Hornell Public Library This Summer

Upcoming Events for All Ages! “The Search for Bigfoot” is July 24

The Hornell Public Library’s summer programming continues with many fun-filled story times, performers, and presentations planned for the Hornell community. For the library’s complete calendar of events for July and August, visit hornellpubliclibrary.org or stop by the library to pick up a Summer Reading Program brochure.

The Search for Bigfoot – July 24th at 6 PM. Join Mike Familant, full-time lead investigator and producer of the show “In the Shadow of Big Red Eye”, as he shares his experiences researching and tracking down the truth behind North America’s most iconic cryptid, Bigfoot. He will exhibit evidence he and his team have collected throughout his journey, along with some of the unfortunate experiences which come along with Bigfooting.

Free Swim at the Hornell Community Pool sponsored by Friends of the Hornell Public Library – July 26th. Enjoy a free swim at the James Street City Pool from 12:30 to 6:30 PM.

Community Bike Ride – July 31st at 6 PM. Come on a bicycle adventure starting at the library and riding to Shawmut Park and back. The Hornell Police Department’s Bike Patrol will help keep the group safe on our adventure. Bring your helmet and a reusable water bottle!

Strange History of the Erie Canal – August 1st at 6 PM. Join David Brooks as we explore the history of the Erie Canal at Schoharie Crossing through strange bits of history that feature murder, mayhem, arson, accidents and more!

Upcoming Events for Children

Portuguese Story Time with Elizabeth – July 22nd at 1 PM. Come read, sing, and play in Portuguese during this special multilingual story time with Miss Elizabeth!

Guiding Eyes Story Time – July 23rd at 1 PM. Discover the important work the Guiding Eyes Program does and learn how they train dogs to help people who cannot see. Families will even be able to meet a couple of dogs-in-training.

Post Office Tour – July 24th at 11 AM *Registration Required-Call the library at 607-324-1210* Bring your family for a behind-the-scenes tour of the post office! Learn how your mail and packages get sorted and make it to your mailbox.

The Reptile Guys – July 25th at 1 PM at the YMCA. Come see and even touch a wide variety of reptiles! The bravest attendees may even get to put a snake around their necks.

STEAM Story Time – July 27th at 11 AM. A Hiking Themed Story Time. Enjoy an adventurous story followed by a fun-filled STEAM activity!

Mr. Gibbs Story Time – July 30th at 1 PM. Whether you are an old student of his or just love great storytellers, don’t miss this opportunity to be swept away by the magic of a Mr. Gibbs story time!

Kelly’s Critter Crew’s Rabbit Story Time – July 31st at 1 PM. Come meet new rabbit friends, pet them, and read to them during this special story time featuring our local small animal rescue Kelly’s Critter Crew!

Wildlife Rockstars – August 1st at 1 PM at the YMCA. Come see some fun animals you don’t get to see every day! Wildlife Rockstars is a wildlife and conservation education program run by Bridges for Brain Injury. Members who have suffered a brain injury re-build and learn new skills as part of their rehabilitation by training in the handling and care of live native and exotic animals, birds, reptiles, and more.

STEAM Story Time – August 3rd at 11 AM. Join the library for a circus story time where we will read a book and complete a fun activity.

Olympics Party for Teens – July 29th at 1 PM. *Registration Required-Call the library at 607-324-1210* Amazing Race for Teens – August 5th at 1 PM. *Registration Required by July 25th. Call the library at 607-324-1210 with your team of two people* Pick a partner and race to solve puzzles, perform physical tasks, or complete fun activities.

The Hornell Public Library is located at 64 Genesee Street, Hornell, NY. The library’s open hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Wednesday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Friday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM, and Saturday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
